    Sheriff's Office — 1 star Feb 23, 2017 4:59am This evening one of your officers pulled over a man for remaining in the left lane without passing. (Officer C. Walden) Officer Walden felt that this was grounds for an illegal search. He asked the man to step out of his vehicle, so he could "explain why he was being pulled over." He then asked the motorist to sit on the passenger side of the squad car, asked him if he could search his vehicle. The driver declined. Soon after that, another offer arrived with a dog. The officer then asked if he could have the dog go in the car, the motorist declined because he didn't “wish for the interior to get scratched.” The officers then walked the dog around the car and claimed that the dog became "excited." This lead to the officers feeling they had probable cause to search the vehicle. Officer Walden instructed the motorist to step out of the squad car and told him to walk down a ditch on the passenger side of the vehicle. He then demanded him to "keep walking, keep walking" Until he was approximately 20-30 feet away from all three vehicles, placing the motorist out of view of the dashboard camera. The officers then both searched the car. I was a witness of this. I would like to know if having a suspect walk out of view of the camera is protocol? I'm not too sure how this would ensure the safety of the officers. As this was going on and I was listening, my only thoughts were "These officers want to kill somebody" The ONLY reason I could see an officer telling this to an alleged "suspect" is to give them probable cause to shoot if he were to run. I can't suspect that the procedures of your department are too much different than any other in the United States. Why would ANY officer instruct a "suspect" to move so far from themselves and out of the camera's view? SHAME ON YOU. I would consider this a perfect example of misuse of power. Not to mention, this reflects quite poorly on your department as well as your state. Concerning the drug trafficking that occurs in this part of the nation, I would like to inform you that not everybody passing through the state of Texas is there to transport drugs, some are just passing through to get home. Conduct like this will NOT make you money, but it can cost you. I would like to stress that the issue isn’t the illegal search, it’s your officer instructing the motorist to walk 20-30 feet away from the car. Where I’m from, we have men and women risk their lives daily to keep the rest of us safe. (God bless them) If this rookie officer wishes to take a life? (Or so it seemed) He’s more than welcome to join the CPD. He will get to, not because he wishes to, but because he is without a choice.  The idea here is to “serve and protect” NOT to make excuses to break the laws yourselves.
